Mob justice is criminal but it is on rise in Uganda. Basically, people of Uganda do not trust their police and courts. Though hundreds of criminals are charged in courts every day, but general perception about courts has emerged that many positions are in hands of corrupt people in the law implementation institutions of country.
To deal with this situation, Government of Uganda must take measures to build the confidence of people in the rule of law. Especially, local police stations should be trained to launch crack-down on mob justice promoters.
In an incident recently reported from Uganda, it was told that an innocent man was killed by a mob. The killed man was Martin Mudenyo who was 25 year old. He was returning to home at night when a mob came in his way.

The mob was running after a thief; they asked him to prove his identity. As no body keeps an identity document with him in a daily routine, the innocent man did not have his identity card with him. However, he told the details of his residence and job location but this information was not acceptable to mob. The mob had beaten him to death. The reported incident happened in Kireka.
The mob justice has become an escalating problem in Uganda and media is almost daily reporting such incidents of mob justice. Most people to lose their lives in mob justice are innocents. They are caught as suspected criminals and are beaten to death. Especially, the motorcycle riders who are called ‘boda bodas’ in local language, are notorious for mob justice.
