John Travolta’s Hairspray

Hairspray is an American Hollywood feature film that was released in the year 2007 and categorized as a musical comedy. This film is basically an adaptation of a broadway musical, with the same name. The movie has been critically acclaimed and broke sale records when it was released. Today, it is the fourth highest grossing musical film released in Hollywood. Its story revolves around cheerful high school students involved in music and dances at a time in the mid nineteen sixties when the Caucasians were coming out of their superiority complex and the blacks were starting to get their rights in the different fields of life. The lead character is Tracy Turnbald and her best friend Penny Pingleton who are viewers and big fans of a teenage dance show, The Corny Collins Show. The mothers of both the girls disapprove.

Trudy’s mother is played by John Travolta. When on the show one fine day, it is announced that there will be auditions for adding new dancers, both Trudy and Penny go beserk but the problem is that the auditions are to held during school hours. Both of them cut classes to get there and after overcoming many obstacles earn their rightful place in the show. Not only that, they also make a lot of new friends especially those of African American origin and have lots of fun and a great time. Their mothers come around and give them their blessings for going forward in this new and exciting field. The film is very entertaining, with multiple hit songs and a cast that included Hollywood A list celebrities including Queen Latifa, John Travolta and the ever so beautiful Michelle Pfifer. The movie received multiple awards and nominations for acting, direction, photography and music.
