New Year’s Eve 2011 From NY City to Sydney, Australia – The World Celebrates
At 12:00 a.m. local time tonight, where ever you are in the world, you will probably be celebrating the coming of the New Years Eve 2011. While the holiday is cause for celebration in most countries around the world, every location has their minor differences.
New Years Eve 2011 in New York City follows a yearly tradition of dropping a large glowing ball located in the center of Times Square. When the countdown begins, the ball is gradually lowered until it hits the bottom at 12:00 AM on January 1st. Other cities and locations around the world and in the United States often imitate but never duplicate the Times Square celebration.
New Years Eve 2011 in Sydney, Australia is quite significant because it is one of the first major cities to celebrate the New Year. Actually at the time this article was written, the New Years Eve 2011 celebration in Sydney had already taken place. It included a phenomenal fireworks display, unlike many you could have possibly seen before. The fireworks were launched around the Sydney Harbour Bridge which had its traditional clock in the center, with the official count down. You can see the celebration in the video below.
New Years Eve 2011 in Italy is referred to by Italians as either Notte di San Silvestro (night of Saint Silvestro) or Capodanno (head of the year). The traditional way of celebrating theNew Years Eve 2011 in Italy includes dropping unwanted and old items out of windows and wearing red colored underwear. However, this tradition has faded over time. The new modern tradition includes dining with friends and family. At 8:30 PM local time, the President of the Republic appears on television to wish his citizens a Happy New Year.
New Years Eve 2011 in Switzerland typically excludes family, and is meant mostly to be celebrated with friends. Fireworks are set off in most of the large cities of Switzerland, as the New Years Eve 2011 is welcomed in with dancing, eating, and drinking.
New Years Eve 2011 in the Philippines is celebrated with a dinner party referred to as a Media Noche. Clothing with circular patterns is worn, because traditional beliefs state that circular shaped items bring fortune to a family. Money, in the form of coins, is shaken in containers and thrown when the clock strikes midnight.
