Regine Ogie Wedding

Sunset wedding for singers Ogie, Regine

MANILA, Philippines—The bride wore a flaming red gown, her signature color, to her wedding.

Singer-actress Regine Velasquez, who tied the knot Wednesday with long-time boyfriend, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, “derives power from that color,” her friend, fashion designer Rajo Laurel, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone.

The off-shoulder outfit was a creation of Monique Lhuiller, the US-based Filipino designer who has also designed gowns for Hollywood celebrities Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Kristen Stewart and Hillary Duff.

Alcasid’s gray suit was by Randy Ortiz. “I have nothing against the barong Tagalog. It’s just that parang mas pogi kasi ako (I look more dashing in a suit),” he told the Inquirer in a previous interview.

The ceremony was held at The Peak, Terrazas de Punta Fuego Resort, Nasugbu, Batangas.

The wedding was set in time for the sunset. “A thousand butterflies were released while Regine was walking down the aisle. They all clung to her. It was an amazing sight,” Laurel said. “Everyone cried when the couple exchanged their marriage vows.”

Velasquez sang the APO Hiking Society original “Awit ng Pag-ibig” as part of her wedding pledge. She ended it by saying: “I’ve never felt so happy all my life.”

‘So romantic’

Hyped as the “Wedding of the Decade,” the Christian ceremony began at 4 p.m., officiated by Pastor Clem Guillermo and Nasugbu Mayor Tony Barcelon.

President Benigno Aquino III was one of the groomsmen.

“The swimming pool was covered with fiberglass. The couple crossed it and climbed a flight of stairs on their way to the altar. It was so romantic,” said Redgie Acuña-Magno, GMA 7 senior program manager.

The all-male vocal group Tux performed at the ceremony.

Michelle was there

Actress Sharon Cuneta, one of the principal sponsors, failed to make it to the event. Cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo, who was also a ninang (godmather), chose not to join the march of the bridal entourage.

Alcasid’s former wife, 1994 Miss Universe-Australia Michelle van Eimeren, and her new husband Mark Morrow, were the couple’s candle bearers. Van Eimeren, who runs a flower shop business in Australia, also took care of the floral arrangements.

Alcasid’s daughter Leila was Velasquez’s maid of honor. Alcasid’s brother Antonio was his best man. His 7-year-old daughter Sarah served as the Bible bearer.

At 6:30 p.m. the newlyweds greeted their guests as Mr. and Mrs. Alcasid for the first time.

“The reception was just across the place where the ceremony was held,” Magno said.

The food was served by Juan Carlo catering.

Ogie, Regine make wedding guests cry

The wedding vows were so touching that the well-heeled guests couldn‘t help but cry.

The groom, Ogie Alcasid, 43, lovingly looked at his bride, Regine Velasquez, as he said in English, “I will be your Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Justin Bieber,” and Regine, 40, her eyes fixed on her brand-new husband, answered in Tagalog, “Kuwarenta anyos na ako kaya pasensya na lang kung masungit ako kung minsan.”

Recounted STAR contributor Girlie Rodis who was among the teary-eyed guests, “Not a pair of eyes was dry.”

Then, Regine sang the APO song Di Ko Malimutan, part of which goes, …di ko maalaala kung kailan nagsimula, di ko malimutan kung kailan ko natikman ang tamis ng ‘yong halik, yakap na napaka-higpit, pagibig na tunay hanggang langit…

The wedding, held at The Peak, Terrazas de Punta Fuego, Nasugbu, Batangas, as heavenly shades of night were falling late yesterday afternoon, was dubbed Wedding of The Decade. It will be shown as a TV special on Sunday, Dec. 26, on GMA with which the couple is under exclusive contract, with a wedding primer to be aired tomorrow in Startalk, also on GMA.

The radiant bride walked down the aisle to the tune of Ryan Cayabyab’s wedding song Iniibig Kita.

Regine was the first-ever bride to wear a red wedding dress specially designed by Monique Lhuillier for reportedly $8,000 (although some people claimed it cost more), a gift for her by Dr. Vicki Belo who stood as one of the 20 principal sponsors who also included Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde, GMA big boss Felipe L. Gozon, GMA exec Wilma Galvante, TV5 boss Manny V. Pangilinan, Sharon Cuneta, Jose Mari Chan, Viva boss Vic del Rosario Jr., Tony Tuviera, German Moreno, Ida Henares, Nanette Inventor, Orlando Ilacad, Anastacia Puno, Dr. Crisanta Villanueva, US-based concert producer Ma. Rosario Legarda, Ronnie Henares, Freddie Santos and Michel Lhuillier and wife Amparito Llamas-Lhuillier (Monique’s parents).

Ogie is an endorser of the Lhuillier string of pawnshops, so Monique accommodated Vicki’s order for Regine’s gown made last August when Regine, accompanied by Vicki, went to L.A. for her measurements.

Pres. Noynoy “P-Noy” Aquino was one of the groomsmen. He left soon after the ceremony and didn’t attend the reception.

Ogie’s ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren was Candle Bearer with her husband Mark Morrow. It was Michelle who did the floral arrangement. When Michelle and Mark got married in Australia last year, Ogie and Regine were present. Leila Isabel, older of Michelle and Ogie’s two daughters, was Maid of Honor. Sarah Kate, the other daughter, was Bible Bearer

The bride wore a pair of expensive boots which she playfully showed the guests by lifting the hemline of her gown.

In previous interviews with The STAR, Ogie and Regine revealed that they would have to postpone their honeymoon, most probably in Europe, to early next year. They planned to spend the next few days in Bohol, together with Michelle and Mark, plus Leila and Sarah Kate.

Regine admitted that she and Ogie have been living together since three years ago when news about their engagement leaked out in the media.

At the reception, Dingdong Avanzado, one of the groomsmen, dedicated Iibigin, a song he composed specially for the couple.

Ogie and Regine bare more of their wedding plans

MANILA, Philippines – With merely 15 days left, local Tinseltown is abuzz with talks and preparations for the much-awaited wedding of Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid.

On Dec. 5, the couple’s “Party Pilipinas” co-hosts threw a bridal shower for Regine during the show. Love songs and dance numbers were performed, including a song number by Ogie, making the bride-to-be teary-eyed and emotional.

“It was very nice. We had a lot of fun. Thank you to everybody,” Regine told “24 Oras Weekend” that same day. Regine is set to have her last appearance before her wedding on “Party Pilipinas” this Dec. 12.

On a separate phone patch interview with “Startalk” last Dec. 4, Ogie revealed their post-wedding plans.
The singer-composer shared that he and Regine, together with their families, would be leaving for Bohol for a Christmas outing. He also revealed that their honeymoon may have to wait until next year.

“Yes, mag-iipon muna. Marami nang gastos,” Ogie quipped. He added that Regine would be busy continuing her taping for the upcoming TV series “I Heart You Pare” with Dingdong Dantes. It had been confirmed in earlier interviews that Regine would be working until Dec. 10 only so that she may be able to rest until her wedding day. Her taping for “I Heart You Pare” is said to resume on Jan. 10, 2011.

Like most couples, Ogie said that they also want to have their own child, preferably a son because that’s what Regine wants.

Asked if they’re all set for their union, Ogie simply likened the wedding preparations to a boxing match.

“As far as the wedding preparation is concerned, we’re doing that in every detail. Regine and I are preparing ourselves spiritually with some people. And at the same time, siyempre, medyo nagpapayat ako ng konti para naman sa wedding day ko, hindi ako ganoon ka-chubby! Ang ganda ng asawa ko, kaya dapat i-match ko rin ang sarili ko sa kagandahan niya!,” said he, laughing.

The power couple’s wedding on Dec. 22 will be held at a private beach in Batangas, where Regine would be wearing a red gown. Quite a number of highly influential personalities had already confirmed to join the entourage, such as GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, TV5 CEO Manny Pangilinan and President Noynoy Aquino.

Ogies’ daughters Leila and Sarah will serve as bridesmaid and bible bearer, respectively, while ex-wife Michelle is also giving a hand with the preparations by being in charge of the floral arrangements for the brides’ and the entourage’s bouquets.

Meanwhile, Regine’s admission that she and Ogie had been living together under one roof for quite a while now, didn’t seem to sit well with some people. The revelation was part of an interview by Jessica Soho on her show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” aired last. Nov. 27.

According to the grapevine, a few people frowned upon this, saying that they are setting a bad example for young people who look up to celebrities such as them. In a predominantly Catholic and conservative country such as ours, this reaction comes as no surprise.

As of this writing, the couple has yet to comment on the matter.
